This year CYC will be participating in the Church's Jubilee of 2025: Pilgrims of Hope. A Jubilee is an incredibly special year in the Church. They occur only every 25 years, meaning a Catholic may only live to see two or three throughout their life!
In his Papal Bull (Spes non confundit) outlining the year, Pope Francis cites Romans 5:5, "Hope does not disappoint." Indeed, hope does not disappoint, nor will a summer spent at CYC! Campers will learn about what hope is, the virtues of a hopeful heart, being a Pilgrim of Hope, and about our patron for the summer, Stella Maris, Mary Star of the Sea. They will also learn about our Bible verse for the summer, Isaiah 40:31: "They that hope in the Lord will renew their strength, they will soar on eagles' wings; they will run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint."
Mary Star of the Sea is an ancient devotion traced back to sailors who prayed for her intercession as they traveled the seas. Now, Mary Star of the Sea serves as a guide to all pilgrims on a journey, including all participants in the Jubilee Year and all campers at CYC!
